2000 Class Event & Series Rules

Version 1.3 - August 2023

1. Scope

These rules are applicable to all Events or Series facilitated by the 2000 Class Association including, but not restricted to: National Championships, Inland Championships, Millennium Series, Latitude Series.

2. Conflicts

In the event of a conflict then the event-specific Sailing Instructions shall prevail.

3. Definitions

Crew: The person in the front of the boat.

Event: Racing arranged by an Organising Club, typically at a single venue and taking place over one or more consecutive days.

Helm: The person at the helm or rear of the boat.

Organising Club: The host club or organisation providing facilities and race management services.

Race Committee: The race management team at the Organising Club.

Series: A prescribed programme of Events taking place at one or more Organising Clubs.

2000 Class Association: The elected committee of the 2000 Class.

4. General Rules

  1. Racing shall be governed by the current Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the Prescriptions of the RYA, the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions of the Organising Club and the 2000 class rules (as appropriate).
  2. All Series and Events shall be designated Category C regarding advertising.
  3. All boats shall comply with the 2000 Measurement Rules.
  4. Either the Helm or Crew must be a current member of the 2000 Class Association as more fully defined in the 2000 Constitution and Measurement Rules.
  5. All competing boats are required to display Event or Series sponsorship decals, (provided without charge) as directed and to maintain them in a presentable order throughout each Event.
  6. Races sanctioned by the 2000 Class Association shall only be sailed if the prevailing conditions are suitable. Relevant guidelines for Race Committees are included in the Measurement Rules Section 6 (Race Management).

5. Helm & Crew Changes

  1. Substitution of competitors within Events shall not be allowed unless written approval is granted by the Race Committee in advance of the race in which the change occurs.
  2. For a sequence of races comprising an Event, the Helm named on the entry form shall be eligible for points scored against that entry. The intent of the 2000 Class Association is to encourage participation at all levels. The 2000 Class Association may review helm/crew swops that are considered to be solely based on improving prize winning positions, and require separate entries to be made if the intent of the rules has been compromised.
  3. For a sequence of Events comprising a Series, points will be awarded to the Helm alone, who may change crew or boat between different Events within the Series.
  4. If it is known at the start of an Event that a Crew will be changed during the Event, then all Crews shall be registered on the entry form along with which day(s) they will be sailing.
  5. A Crew may temporarily helm a boat during a race to assist repair, maintenance or recovery or for such other good reason.

6. Scoring

  1. The Low Point scoring system of RRS Appendix A shall apply to all Events.
  2. The Low Point scoring system of RRS Appendix A shall apply to all Series. All references to race or races in Appendix A will mean Event or Events; this modifies RRS Appendix A.
  3. Ties will be broken in accordance with RRS Appendix A.
  4. The minimum number of races required to constitute any Event will be determined by the Race Committee and specified in the Sailing Instructions.
  5. The number of race scores that will be excluded from an overall Event score will be determined by the Race Committee and specified in the Sailing Instructions.
  6. The number of Event scores that will be excluded from an overall Series of Events are defined in Appendix 1 to these rules.

7. Prizes

  1. Prizes will be awarded at each Event and for each Series of Events at the discretion of the Race Committee or 2000 Class Association.
