Thirty boats took part in the Laser 2000 Millennium Series event at Grafham Water Sailing Club on 12th and 13th June. Upon arrival on the Saturday morning, the sailors were greeted with between 6 and 10 knots of shifty breeze.
Race one was won by Rob and Katie Burridge from Weirwood SC, followed by Jasper and Laura Barnham, Snettisham Beach SC, and James and Jenny Macgregor from Grafham.
At the start of the second race, the boats seemed a bit too keen to finish as early as possible in order to watch the England game so the race officer had to curb their enthusiasm with a black flag following several general recalls! Rob and Katie Burridge scored their second race win, with Elizabeth and Tim Fillmore from Draycote in second and Jasper and Laura Barnham in third.
The Burridges and Barnhams continued their good form to take first and second respectively in the third race, followed by Graham Sexton and Kristina Harborne from Thorpe Bay YC in third.
Race four was brought forward to the Saturday due to the light forecast for Sunday. This time, the Barnhams managed to push the Burridges into second place, whilst Dave and Kate Eccles from Bala SC secured third.
Sunday morning brought a light breeze and sailing began after only a short postponement. The Barnhams won the first race of the day, whilst Tim and Linda Hulley finished second and the Burridges scored their worst race of the event by finishing third.
They nevertheless put this behind them to win the second race of the day, followed by the Barnhams. Chris and Emily McDonald from Grafham sailed well to secure third position. Rob and Katie Burridge won the event with a total of 6 points, followed by Jasper and Laura Barnham in second with 8 points. Miles and Anderley Wade sailed consistently to finish third overall with 30 points.
